MRBC has now positioned itself for the future and actively invested in its people to propel smart cities opportunities

Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) has become home to the highest number of certified Smart Cities Practitioners across the Australia and New Zealand region after more than 30 staff successfully completed the Smart Cities Practitioner Certificate foundation course, administered by the Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand (SCCANZ).

Adam Beck, Executive Director of SCCANZ made the announcement today - “Today’s announcement is a milestone for our Smart Cities Practitioner Certificate program, and a reflection of MBRC’s commitment to ensure it shapes the region’s growth in a way that embraces digital and data to build greater prosperity for its residents, businesses and visitors.”

The Moreton Bay Region is a local government area north of Brisbane and is forecast to grow by over 40% by 2036 – a staggering number. Spanning over 2,037 square kilometres, the region boasts diverse landscapes, land uses and businesses.

“As an organisation that has received accolades for its deployment of smart cities solutions to drive greater efficiencies and customer experience, this new achievement builds on MRBC’s commitment to grow its staff capacity to drive the best outcomes for its future growth.” Beck stated

Beck continued by saying “we have observed over the past five years that successful advancement of smart cities action and investment has not been challenged by technology or data, but rather people. By this we mean knowledge and awareness, collaboration and lack of willingness to adopt standards and frameworks have been major barriers across the nation. MRBC has now positioned itself for the future and actively invested in its people to propel smart cities opportunities.”

The Smart Cities Practitioner Certificate is administered through the SCCANZ’s Smart Cities Academy.
