Will supply the passenger information system, the public address system, the intercom system and the onboard Ethernet communications network<\/p>\n

CAF<\/a> (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles), leader in the design and execution of integral mobility systems, has selected the multinational tech company GMV<\/a> to supply the onboard ITS systems of the 15 URBOS 3 streetcars to operate in the Portuguese city of Lisbon. CAF has awarded GMV this project in Portugal as it is a world leader in designing, developing, implementing, and rolling out intelligent transport systems (ITS). The URBOS 3 can run on some sections without the need for overhead cables or suspended wires and is set to come into operation in Lisbon in 2023.<\/p>\n

GMV\u2019s inhouse-developed ITS systems to form part of the project are the passenger information system, the public address system, the intercom system, and the Ethernet onboard communications network.<\/p>\n

Rail transportation is a safe, on-time and convenient mode of transportation. In this sense, GMV\u2019s intelligent transportation systems help improve the passenger service while also increasing safety levels and improving management procedures by transportation authorities and operators.<\/p>\n

GMV has a strong presence of ITS systems in the railway and tramway field, with its own developments and leading clients among private and public operators such as RENFE, ONCF (Morocco\u2019s national railroad operator), Metro de Barcelona, and Metro de Santiago de Chile, in addition to manufacturers such as ALSTOM, CAF, Pesa, and Talgo. GMV is a reliable technological partner in major projects, strictly complying with the rigorous standards of the sector. It has references in all rail modes: tram, light rail, heavy metro (subway), suburban trains, regional, main-line, AV, and freight. In the field of rail transport GMV has more than 4,000 equipped vehicles worldwide.<\/p>\n

Onboard systems for CAF\u2019s URBOS 3 streetcars in Lisbon<\/em><\/p>\n

To improve the current passenger experience GMV will supply CAF with a version of its INFO-Pass<\/strong><\/em> system, an integrated information solution combining text, video, and audio information. Totally digital, it offers the features of a classic passenger information system, enhanced with a high-performance video information system. It provides text information on LED displays located throughout the train (front, side, and interior displays), video information on monitors placed in each car, and audio information on the unit\u2019s public address system.<\/p>\n

Among the highlights of this system are station arrival detection and the possibility of managing associated content through the different channels. Programmable content can be automatically downloaded from a remote server, in addition to real-time messaging from the control center. In this way, travelers can see information of interest and advertising content in various formats.<\/p>\n

For its part, the PA & Intercom public address and intercom system distributed throughout the streetcar is mainly digital. It will enable management of all audio communications that occur within the train, from automatic travel announcements (next station, correspondences, etc.), public address systems for drivers, control center or other posts throughout the train; intercoms for passenger-driver emergencies and vice versa; intercoms between any member of the crew, and playing ambient music.<\/p>\n

All these systems are GMV\u2019s own developments and will be integrated with the train\u2019s monitoring and control system to receive the necessary information and report their status and alarms.<\/p>\n
