The energy transition is no longer just about adding more renewable generation, it is increasingly about <\/span>how energy systems are managed, connected and used<\/b>. Digitalization now plays a central role in making this transition efficient, secure and truly <\/span>user-oriented<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a big step toward a more independent and sustainable energy future,, the <\/span>ECLIPSE DIGITAL EUROPE project<\/span><\/a>, coordinated by <\/span>ETRA I+D<\/b>, recently organised the workshop \u201c<\/span>From Data to Action: How Digitalisation Accelerates the Energy Transition<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u201d. The event brought together several European initiatives to exchange practical experiences on <\/span>how digitalization can support the evolution of Europe\u2019s energy system.<\/b><\/p>\n

Building a European digital backbone for energy<\/h2>\n

The workshop opened with a keynote from Ms. Patricia Arsene (European Commission, DG CONNECT), which highlighted the <\/span>growing need for a shared digital backbone for the energy sector<\/b>. Rather than relying on isolated platforms and fragmented solutions, Europe is moving towards a <\/span>more coordinated model where energy data can flow securely and efficiently between stakeholders.<\/b><\/p>\n

This approach is closely linked to recent <\/span>policy developments<\/b>, including the Data Act and the European Data Strategy, which promote <\/span>common governance models<\/b> and <\/span>sectoral data spaces<\/b>. In the energy domain, these frameworks aim to <\/span>make data more accessible and reusable<\/b>, while ensuring trust, security and interoperability across borders.<\/span><\/p>\n

ECLIPSE: bringing energy data to the user<\/h2>\n

Within this broader ecosystem, ECLIPSE DIGITAL PROJECT\u00a0 is developing the <\/span>Common European Reference Framework (CERF)<\/b> for energy consumer applications. During the workshop, the project team presented a first version of the <\/span>ECLIPSE energy app<\/span><\/a>, designed to <\/span>turn complex energy data into clear and actionable information for end users.<\/b><\/p>\n

The app allows users to <\/span>monitor their energy consumption<\/b> in near real time, receive <\/span>flexibility signals<\/b> (for example, alerts to reduce demand during peak periods) and access <\/span>tailored energy-saving tips<\/b>. As discussed during the session, while other initiatives focus on building the data infrastructure, ECLIPSE DIGITAL PROJECT aims to be the point where this data finally becomes useful and understandable for citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n
