{"id":9366,"date":"2021-10-24T16:28:19","date_gmt":"2021-10-24T14:28:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thesmartcityjournal.cibeles.net\/sin-categoria\/african-development-bank-mtn-launch-women-s-finance-study-in-nigeria\/"},"modified":"2021-10-24T16:28:49","modified_gmt":"2021-10-24T14:28:49","slug":"african-development-bank-mtn-launch-women-s-finance-study-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thesmartcityjournal.com\/en\/news\/african-development-bank-mtn-launch-women-s-finance-study-in-nigeria","title":{"rendered":"African Development Bank &#038; MTN Launch Women\u2019s Finance Study in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\"><em>Grant for $500,000 for a study into the factors hampering access to finance for women in the north<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>African Development Bank<\/strong> has signed a grant agreement for $500,000 with<strong> Y\u2019ello Digital Financial Services (YDFS)<\/strong>, a fintech subsidiary of <strong>MTN Nigeria<\/strong>, to be used for a study into economic, religious, and social factors hampering access to finance for women in northern Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The research, which includes a feasibility study, women-focused design and testing, will focus on both agents and customers to provide insights into women\u2019s use of mobile money services, will be funded through the<strong> Africa Digital Financial Inclusion Facility (ADFI).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite being the continent\u2019s largest economy, 55% of rural Nigerians still lack access to financial services. The rate of mobile money adoption currently stands at 4%, with an agent ratio of 228.8 agents per 1,000 adults. Political instability and conservative cultural norms in parts of Northern Nigeria are thought to present barriers to women\u2019s access to finance. Additionally, 80% of agents in the region are men.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <strong>African Development Bank<\/strong>, through the <strong>Africa Digital Financial Inclusion Facility (ADFI),<\/strong> is delighted to support this project, furthering our work to improve the quality of life for people in Nigeria and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly as relates to poverty, and gender inclusion,\u201d said <strong>Stefan Nalletamby, African Development Bank Director of Financial Sector Development.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On behalf of <strong>YDFS, Usoro Usoro, Chief Executive
