Ya existen sistemas de IA para tratar s\u00edntomas de la depresi\u00f3n, softwares de aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico capaces de reconocer cambios cerebrales causados por el Alzh\u00e9imer a\u00f1os antes de las primeras se\u00f1ales o escaneos cerebrales que identifican tendencias suicidas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">En el caso del Alzheimer \u2013la principal causa de la demencia en ancianos\u2013, el mayor desaf\u00edo es lograr un diagn\u00f3stico temprano y frenar su progresi\u00f3n. En ese sentido, un equipo liderado por Marianna La Rocca, f\u00edsica de la Universidad de Bari, en Italia, desarroll\u00f3 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/1709.02369v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">un algoritmo de aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico<\/a> <span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">capaz de <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\"><b>discernir cambios estructurales en el cerebro causados por el Alzheimer<\/b><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">El algoritmo fue entrenado con 67 im\u00e1genes de resonancia magn\u00e9tica \u201338 de pacientes con Alzheimer y 29 de un grupo de control\u2013 para que aprendiera a discriminar correctamente entre cerebros enfermos y sanos. Los investigadores dividieron cada imagen cerebral en peque\u00f1as regiones, analizaron la conectividad neuronal entre ellas y encontraron que <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\"><b>el software hab\u00eda realizado la clasificaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s precisa de la enfermedad <\/b><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">al comparar regiones cerebrales de 2.250 a 3.200 mil\u00edmetros c\u00fabicos, tama\u00f1o similar al de las estructuras anat\u00f3micas relacionadas con el Alzheimer, como el hipocampo.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">Al analizar un conjunto de 148 escaneos \u201452 sanos, 48 enfermos y 48 con deterioro cognitivo leve, de los que se sab\u00eda que desarrollar\u00edan la enfermedad de 2,5 a nueve a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde\u2014, <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\"><b>el sistema distingui\u00f3 entre un cerebro sano y uno con Alzheimer con una precisi\u00f3n del 86%. <\/b><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">Para La Rocca, esto muestra que el algoritmo podr\u00eda identificar cambios en el cerebro que conducen al Alzheimer casi una d\u00e9cada antes de los s\u00edntomas cl\u00ednicos.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">Actualmente, los escaneos cerebrales con trazadores radioactivos son capaces de predecir con relativa precisi\u00f3n qui\u00e9n est\u00e1 en alto riesgo de desarrollar Alzheimer dentro de 10 a\u00f1os, pero ese es un m\u00e9todo invasivo, caro y que solo est\u00e1 disponible en centros altamente especializados. <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\"><b>La nueva t\u00e9cnica, sin embargo, es m\u00e1s simples, m\u00e1s barata y no invasiva<\/b><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">\u201c, afirma la cient\u00edfica, que pretende aplicar el m\u00e9todo en el diagn\u00f3stico precoz de enfermedades como el P\u00e1rkinson.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #333333;font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><b>Un algoritmo que identifica potenciales suicidas<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">Un grupo de psic\u00f3logos y psiquiatras de diferentes universidades estadounidenses <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\"><b>desarrollaron un <\/b><\/span><\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41562-017-0234-y.epdf?referrer_access_token=EMX0hHnkv3-lYpQmEyKPZdRgN0jAjWel9jnR3ZoTv0PlolHg9I7QP3UyFNW9kzE22N58pMUanqWOZMcJf3X2qI8sFxyvyLueZLc3gu90y_IGo5vA5QmJxC8mWqzNyNPfF6XPSSz8iWJS0tuPmuuIinuzPKQqA6FXt9jxbJ7hnNcrAwVD7qQF6FB1Io0kQoQPGD8DB4bv2NpfBuP982u5SoKeolAF1z1TAKrWd_qn-9tQ-kriVTO-k6jKgr6OQAnJbfDa1NwJtS9ae9sZnMj6fB5U29BKj3zjARtN28MOQNNomGyuJ3kFeUuOpZEq0Kg8&amp;tracking_referrer=www.technologyreview.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">algoritmo similar para identificar a suicidas<\/a><\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\"><b>en potencia<\/b><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">. Sometieron a 34 adultos j\u00f3venes \u2014divididos entre suicidas y un grupo de control\u2014 a una resonancia magn\u00e9tica funcional (fMRI) y les presentaron tres listas de 10 palabras: una relacionada con el suicidio (\u201cmuerte\u201d, \u201cfatal\u201d o \u201cangustiado\u201d), otra con cosas positivas (\u201cbondad\u201d o \u201cinocencia\u201d) y otra con la negatividad (\u201caburrimiento\u201d o \u201cmaldad\u201d).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">Se utilizaron im\u00e1genes cerebrales previamente mapeadas que muestran patrones emocionales como el de la verg\u00fcenza o la ira. Los cient\u00edficos identificaron cinco ubicaciones cerebrales, relacionadas con seis de las palabras, como los mejores marcadores para distinguir a los pacientes suicidas de los dem\u00e1s. Con eso, entrenaron un <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\"><b>clasificador de aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico que pudo identificar correctamente a 15 de los 17<\/b><\/span><\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\"><b>pacientes suicidas <\/b><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">y a 16 de 17 sujetos de control.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a;font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Tras esto, dividieron a los pacientes suicidas en dos grupos, los que hab\u00edan intentado suicidarse (nueve) y los que no (ocho), y entrenaron a un nuevo clasificador que pudo identificar correctamente a 16 de los 17 pacientes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">Los resultados mostraron que los pacientes sanos y aquellos con pensamientos suicidas ten\u00edan reacciones marcadamente diferentes ante las palabras. Cuando aquellos con tendencias suicidas ve\u00edan la palabra \u201cmuerte\u201d, el \u00e1rea de verg\u00fcenza de su cerebro registraba un pico de actividad no observado en el grupo de control. Lo mismo ocurr\u00eda en el \u00e1rea de tristeza con la palabra \u201cproblemas\u201d. \u201cEsto nos da una ventana al cerebro y la mente, <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\"><b>nos permite decir si alguien est\u00e1 considerando suicidarse por la forma en que piensa en los temas relacionados con la muerte<\/b><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">, explica Marcel Just, catedr\u00e1tico de Psicolog\u00eda de la Universidad Carnegie Mellon.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #333333;font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><b>IA para tratar la depresi\u00f3n<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">Con acceso a trav\u00e9s de Facebook Messenger, el sistema hace preguntas a los usuarios para evaluar su estado de \u00e1nimo. Con el tiempo, el algoritmo, entrenado en m\u00e9todos de terapia cognitivo-conductual, aprende el perfil emocional de cada uno y recomienda actividades para mantener su equilibrio. Un <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mental.jmir.org\/2017\/2\/e19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ensayo cl\u00ednico<\/a> <span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">realizado en colaboraci\u00f3n con la Universidad de Stanford demostr\u00f3 que usuarios de entre 18 y 28 a\u00f1os experimentaron\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\"><b>reducciones significativas en la ansiedad y la depresi\u00f3n <\/b><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">en comparaci\u00f3n con el grupo de control que utiliz\u00f3 un libro sobre c\u00f3mo lidiar con la depresi\u00f3n.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">Otra iniciativa es la de Thomas Insel, exdirector del Instituto Nacional de Salud Mental de Estados Unidos, fundador de <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mindstronghealth.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #009dd3\">Mindstrong<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #4b4a4a\">, que utiliza IA para ayudar a diagnosticar y tratar trastornos de comportamiento y emocionales mediante la interpretaci\u00f3n del uso de smartphones.
