How can Commoning, Housing systems, Urban health, Sanctuary cities and Democracy contribute to urban and territorial equality?

UCLG and the KNOW program to publish the third series of the GOLD VI Working Papers. The Working Papers are key contributions that form the very basis of the Report

With the aim to define an urban and territorial equality agenda, UCLG and the KNOW program (led by University College London) have brought together hundreds of contributors from local & regional governments, civil society organizations, the academia, international partners, and UCLG commissions & committees. Together, they have collectively defined six pathways to equality: Commoning, Caring, Connecting, Renaturing, Prospering and Democratizing.

Today they publish the third series of the GOLD VI Working Papers. The Working Papers are key contributions that form the very basis of the Report:

 #14 “Defining and discussing the notion of commoning”, by Alessio Kolioulis (The Bartlett Development Planning Unit, University College London)

• #15 Housing systems and urban and territorial inequalities: Bottom-up pathways to more equality-driven housing systems, by Eduard Cabré and Sophia Torres
• #16 Cities can care for people and enable them to care for others, making urban health possible, by Francisco Obando and Michael Keith (PEAK Urban Programme based in COMPAS, School of Anthropology, University of Oxford)
• #17 Sanctuary Cities: How Do Cities Care for Newcomers? An Overview of Inclusive Local Responses to Migration, by Alia Fakhry (German Council on Foreign Relations)
• #18 Democracy in cities and territories, by Laura Roth (Universitat Jaume I)

As an outcome of this exciting large-scale collaborative process, the upcoming GOLD VI report will gather findings from all the contributions. Titled “Pathways to urban and territorial equality: Addressing inequalities through local transformation strategies”, it will focus on how local and regional governments can address the local manifestations of growing inequalities.

The Report will be launched during the UCLG World Congress that will be held in Daejeon, South Korea, on 10-14 October 2022.
