During 4YFN, at the Madrid Innovation stand, the Councilor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Ángel Niño, presented the new Sandbox, an initiative within Madrid Innovation to drive technological experimentation in the city, as well as the support available for startups.

During 4YFN, at the Madrid Innovation stand, the Councilor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Ángel Niño, highlighted the city’s progress in this field. Madrid Innovation has been strengthening its position for years as a leader in technological innovation. On this occasion, the creation of a Sandbox was introduced, an initiative within Madrid Innovation that will allow for testing and validating technological solutions in a real environment. "Madrid is the city with the most entrepreneurs and the one that raises the most capital in Spain," Niño emphasized.

At this edition of 4YFN, Horus ML, a startup that has grown alongside Madrid Innovation and maintains a close relationship with its innovation centers, was one of the five finalists of the 4YFN Awards and the winner in the Digital Health category, being the only Spanish company in this prestigious competition. This reflects Madrid's commitment to supporting innovative startups and its growing presence in the international landscape.

Madrid Innovation: The Key Initiative of the Madrid City Council

Madrid Innovation is the Madrid City Council's initiative dedicated to fostering innovation in the city and driving forward innovative projects through its innovation centers and multiple initiatives such as awards, calls for proposals, and acceleration programs. Under the leadership of Councilor Ángel Niño, from the Delegated Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, this initiative has been instrumental in transforming Madrid into a benchmark hub within the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

An Urban Sandbox for Experimentation

One of the most notable initiatives within Madrid Innovation is the creation of an urban sandbox, a testing environment where companies, universities, and entrepreneurs can develop pilot projects and test new technologies in a real urban setting. According to Ángel Niño, this model allows "innovators from all over the world, from large corporations to startups and foundations, to carry out proof-of-concept trials with viable MVPs that can function in Madrid."

The objective of this sandbox is not only to attract innovation to the capital but also to create an environment where collaboration among different players drives technological solutions applicable to urban life. "We want Madrid to become an innovation laboratory where ideas can materialize and be tested in a real-world setting," the councilor emphasized.

Madrid Innovation and Madrid Emprende: Acceleration and Free Support

To strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem, Madrid has 13 innovation and entrepreneurship centers that offer acceleration programs at no cost to startups from all over the world. These initiatives provide entrepreneurs not only with physical spaces to develop their projects but also with support in the form of mentorship, networking, and international visibility. "We provide entrepreneurs with the necessary tools for their ideas to grow, from workspaces to fully funded acceleration programs," Niño explained.

In addition to these spaces, the city promotes technological innovation through incentive programs such as the Artificial Intelligence Awards, which seek to foster the development of cutting-edge digital solutions. "We have just awarded prizes to artificial intelligence projects that are shaping the future of innovation in Madrid," said the councilor.

Artificial Intelligence and Mobility: The Keys to the Urban Future

One of the sectors with the greatest growth potential in Madrid is urban mobility. Technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and autonomous vehicles are shaping the evolution of transportation both inside and outside the city. "Undoubtedly, IoT and autonomous vehicles will be the key factors determining the future of mobility, especially in terms of sustainability," stated Niño.

An example of this innovation applied to daily life is the implementation of smart waste containers equipped with IoT sensors that detect their fill level and automatically notify collection trucks. This optimization not only improves the efficiency of waste management but also reduces costs and minimizes environmental impact. "We already have IoT-enabled containers that detect when they are full and notify the collection trucks directly, even before residents notice," the councilor explained.

Madrid in the Global Startup Ecosystem

Madrid's presence at key innovation and technology events has been increasing. In this edition, the city has, for the first time, its own stand, further reinforcing its position in the global ecosystem. "In previous editions, we attended as observers, but now we are taking a step forward to position ourselves as a key player," Niño explained.

Within this space, startups from programs such as Madrid Innovation and Madrid In Game have been able to present their projects to investors and establish strategic connections. "Our goal is not only to give these startups visibility but also to help them generate content, set up meetings, and create investment opportunities," Niño emphasized.
