To be held as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities in English and Spanish, both online and at the premises of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels
Achieving the objectives of the RePowerEU while meeting the EU’s 2030 Climate and Energy targets will require unprecedented mobilization across levels of governance and sectors. To consider the efforts needed by all actors and by all sectors of our society, the Covenant of Mayors and the European Committee of the Regions extend an invitation to the high-level workshop "RePowerEU: The role of cities and regions in accelerating the energy transition to deliver on COP27 and the Paris Agreement goals".
The high-level networking session for Covenant Ambassadors, Coordinators and Supporters will be held as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities on 12 October, 09:30 - 11:00, in English and Spanish, both online and at the premises of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels. It represents the occasion to discuss and debate on what regional and sub-regional authorities and other actors are doing and can do to support the EU in reaching its climate targets and energy dependency. It will also be an opportunity to discuss how the REPowerEU Plan will support the EU efforts in delivering on the Paris Agreement in preparation for the UNFCCC COOP27, to be held in Sharm el-Sheik in November 2022.
High representatives of the European Commission, the Committee of the Regions, the Covenant of Mayors Europe and regional authorities will showcase how the acceleration of energy transition can be improved and how regions are supporting the implementation of the REPowerEU Plan and thus contributing to achieving the EU climate objectives.
The event will also be the occasion to celebrate the winners of the Covenant City in the Spotlight Award, municipalities with outstanding progress in implementing mitigation and adaptation.
