Las Rozas continues to take giant steps toward its zero-emissions commitment. The city, which has an ambitious strategy for innovation and sustainability, has completed the first phase of the Las Rozas Energía Plan, the large energy efficiency project carried out by Las Rozas Innova to install photovoltaic panels on the roofs of a total of 30 public centers.

With the completion of the first phase, the city's 15 public schools and the four municipal sports centers are already saving an average of 30% on their electricity consumption thanks to the activation of the photovoltaic panels installed on their roofs.

In the second phase, which is planned for next year, panels will be installed on 15 other municipal buildings, including the Town Hall, citizens centers, the Local Police, the childhood schools, the auditorium, libraries and another cultural centers. Additionally, cutting-edge panels will be installed at the León Tolstoi Library and the Joaquín Rodrigo Auditorium through a Public Procurement of Innovation procedure.

The project in figures

The mayor of Las Rozas and president of Las Rozas Innova, José de la Uz, has presented the first results of the project, which will involve the installation of nearly 3,000 photovoltaic panels in 30 municipal buildings, with a total expected power of 1.6 megawatts and generating a total of 2.4 gigawatt-hours. This is equivalent to the annual consumption of 700 households and will avoid emissions amounting to 600 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to the carbon fixation of 30,000 trees. A plan, in two phases, with a total investment of more than 2 million euros.

"We continue taking steps towards our zero-emissions goal with sustainable and smart urban planning and the most advanced technologies to make Las Rozas an efficient city, environmentally friendly, and with the best quality of life for its residents," said De la Uz.

A sustainable and smart project with real-time results

The Project is also integrated into the Las Rozas Innova Data Platform, which provides real-time information on the energy being generated by the panels installed during the first phase of the Plan, as well as the cumulative energy since their progressive commissioning. The platform also allows for monitoring the electricity consumption of each municipal facility already operating at full capacity, which includes the city's 11 public schools and four municipal sports centers.

Zero Emissions Goal 2030

The Las Rozas Energía Plan is the energy efficiency project of Las Rozas Innova for the city. It is a sustainability and innovation project aimed at reducing CO2 emissions, generating clean energy, and lowering energy bills through the installation of photovoltaic panels in municipal centers for self-consumption.

In recent years, the Las Rozas City Council, in partnership with Las Rozas Innova and various municipal government departments, has carried out several actions to reduce its carbon footprint, outlined in the Las Rozas Objective Zero 2030 Plan. These include the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS), the launch of Las Rozas Charging (the municipal network of electric vehicle charging points), the Las Rozas Multimodal Mobility Area, boiler replacements, the substitution of lighting with LED technology, the implementation of a centralized management system for building climate control systems, and the automation of the irrigation system for all parks in the municipality, which will save 40% of water consumption. This plan is now complemented by Las Rozas Energía, through which the city has already reduced its carbon footprint by 60%.

Additionally, the Las Rozas City Council, as part of its commitment to clean energy and sustainability, offers 50% rebates for 5 years on the Property Tax (IBI) for the installation of thermal or electrical solar energy systems. Furthermore, the Construction, Installations, and Works Tax (ICIO) provides an 80% deduction for constructions, installations, or works that incorporate these systems for harnessing fewer polluting energies.
