The inaugural meeting of China Unicom Association for Science and Technology (CUAST) was held in Beijing
Zhang Yuzhuo, secretary of the leading Party members group, vice president in charge of daily work and chief executive secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), and Liu Liehong, executive secretary of the leading Party members group and chairman of the board of China Unicom, attended the meeting and delivered speeches respectively.
Lyu Zhaoping, member of the leading Party members group and executive secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, Chen Zhongyue, deputy secretary of the leading Party members group and president of China Unicom, Wang Junzhi, deputy secretary of the leading Party members group of China Unicom, and Shen Jie, executive secretary of the leading Party members group of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST) attended the meeting and jointly unveiled the establishment of the CUAST.
The meeting was presided over by Mai Yanzhou, member of the leading Party members group and vice president of China Unicom
Zhang Yuzhuo pointed out that as component of the national sci-tech strategy, source of original technologies and leading knot of modern industrial chain, the central enterprises are playing important and irreplaceable role in modern society.
CAST will join hands with the State Assets Administration Committee (SASAC) to promote the establishment of associations for science and technology at the group level in qualified central enterprises, which is an important measure to implement President Xi Jinping’s instruction on sci-tech innovation to rally Chinese sci-tech professionals to better serve the nation’s high-quality development strategy and build China a leading power in science and technology, continued Zhang.
While noting that China Unicom is a major force to provide Chinese citizens with digital information services, Zhang expected that under the leadership of China Unicom, the newly established CUAST will follow the theme of the times and make new achievements on the new journey.
Zhang urged to enhance the awareness of political guidance and cohesion to serve the country’s most fundamental interests and better fulfill CAST’s founding mission of serving sci-tech professionals, promoting innovation-driven development, enhancing scientific literacy of all Chinese citizens and providing consultative services for the Party and government.
Zhang called on to gather consensus of openness, mutual trust and win-win cooperation to serve global digital governance and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
He promised to stimulate the organizational vitality of CAST and send its services to sci-tech professionals in central enterprises.
He expected the two sides to join hands to provide stable information platforms and services for sci-tech talents, and take practical actions to give powerful support for building up China’s strength in science, technology, and cyberspace, and for building a digital China and a smart society as well.
Liu Liehong thanked CAST for its long-term support
Liu pointed out that the establishment of the association for science and technology in central enterprises is in line with current development of sci-tech innovation.
The associations for science and technology in central enterprises will be conducive to the enterprises to give full play of the role as main body of sci-tech innovation, and strengthen integration of innovative and industrial chains.
The establishment of the association for science and technology in central enterprises will extend the organizational strength of CAST and advance the transformation of sci-tech achievements into productivity, added Liu.
Liu continued that China Unicom will take the establishment of the CUAST as a new starting point to deepen strategic cooperation with CAST up to a new level.
He expected that, under the guidance of CAST, the CUAST, will weave network between China Unicom and Chinese sci-tech professionals to gather innovative resources and stimulate innovation vitality to contribute to achieving the goal of sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening at higher levels in the field of information and communication.
At the meeting, Lyu Zhaoping and Chen Zhongyue signed a strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of the two sides.
Heads of relevant departments of CAST, China Unicom and BAST attended the meeting on site, and heads of 31 provincial branches of China Unicom attended the meeting online.
