The Las Rozas City Council has taken a new step in its digital transformation by developing a digital twin of the city: a real-time virtual replica of the municipality that collects, analyzes and manages data from sensors, cameras and other devices of the city and that allows different scenarios to be simulated, evaluate the impact of initiatives or modifications in urban planning and manage in a more comprehensive way, efficient and coordinated.

It is a digital representation of the city developed with a focus on mobility, which integrates all urban assets (signage, bike lanes, stops, etc.) and which forms the basis of COSMOS, the name with which its Smart City Platform has been baptized in Las Rozas.

It is an internal City Council tool, aimed at improving planning, urban management, and decision-making, which allows simulated anticipation to improve the quality of services and achieve the well-being of citizens.

The digital twin of Las Rozas has about 50 layers of information and all the data from the various sensors, cameras and, in short, all the IoT devices deployed in the city are already being integrated into it to offer the Las Rozas City Council a complete and real-time view of what is happening in Las Rozas.

Thanks to this tool, the City Council will be able to simulate scenarios, analyse the impact of its initiatives and predict how t the urban environment will behave before applying them in areas such as traffic improvement, emergency management, public transport, incidents on public roads, lighting, energy generated by municipal photovoltaic panels, automated irrigation, etc. noise levels, air quality, water, electricity and energy consumption, the filling of waste containers and the data captured by the almost 300 cameras with artificial intelligence distributed throughout the city.

"As we integrate parameters, the digital twin allows us to decide what to do more efficiently and quickly, optimise resources and even anticipate problems and the needs of the city, something absolutely revolutionary to serve the neighbors better, which is what matters,", says José de la Uz, mayor of Las Rozas and president of Las Rozas Innova.

The City Council is working on the development of a new mobile app linked to the digital twin for the management of incidents in the city, as well as the visualization of certain layers of information.

The most innovative technology at the service of cities

The digital twin of Las Rozas has been developed with a pioneering technology in Spain, obtained thanks to public-private collaboration and carried out through a Public Procurement of Innovative Technology (CPTI) process, carried out by Las Rozas Innova, the Public Company for Innovation and Technological Development of the City of Las Rozas.

The project has been partially financed by the European Union's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, Next Generation EU Funds, obtained through the European Fundraising Office of Las Rozas Innova.

The project is based on NEC's CCOC (Cloud City Operations Center) platform, a Powered by FIWARE certified solution that guarantees interoperability and the use of open standards, allowing the integration of multiple data sources and systems, which facilitates the comprehensive management of urban mobility. A technology that makes the digital twin of Las Rozas a sustainable model that is scalable and replicable to other cities.

It is a technology that integrates urban assets (signage, bike lanes, stops, etc.) with predictive air quality and mobility systems with expected results in improving decision-making, infrastructure planning, and control of the Low Emission Zone (LEZ).
