“This recognition is the result of our collective effort to turn Las Rozas into a dynamic, innovative, and globally connected city”, said the major of Las Rozas

Las Rozas has been recognized as one of the Top 7 intelligent communities of the year by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), becoming the only european city to receive this distinction in 2025. This international recognition places Las Rozas among the global elite in innovation, alongside six other communities from various continents.

“We’ve been working for years to become a smart city, but above all to improve the lives of our citizens. This recognition is the result of collective effort and the various ecosystems thriving in Las Rozas—such as educational, business, and entrepreneurial sectors. They have all contributed to building a dynamic, innovative, and outward-looking city. I especially want to thank the professionals across the different public departments of Las Rozas, whose commitment has been key in advancing this transformation. Today we can say that our work is bearing fruit, with a reduced unemployment rate, Las Rozas being positioned as an international reference in urban innovation, and an influx of investment driving the economic and social development of our municipality,” said José de la Uz, Mayor of Las Rozas and President of Las Rozas Innova.

Innovative solutions for the city

Last march, Las Rozas was already included— for the second consecutive year—among the 21 smartest communities in the world. This initial selection marks the beginning of the ICF’s evaluation process, which culminates in the choice of the Top 7: the communities that excel in digital transformation, sustainability, social inclusion, and citizen participation.

Las Rozas has been selected for its capacity to implement innovative solutions in the city, its commitment to entrepreneurship and technology, and its focus on improving residents’ quality of life. The ICF evaluates cities based on six key indicators: digital connectivity, local strategy, innovation, sustainable management, digital divide reduction, and citizen engagement.

International hub of urban Innovation

This week, the city is also hosting ICF’s international conference at the Hub232 municipal auditorium in Las Rozas. The event gathers more than 300 experts from 15 countries over three days. It coincides with several key gatherings: the Red Española de Ciudades Inteligentes (RECI)—chaired by Las Rozas since 2023—the annual meeting of the Red Innpulso (the network of Science and Innovation Spanish Cities), and Civinet Iberia (the Spanish-Portuguese sustainable mobility network). These events cement Las Rozas’ status as a key node in the smart cities network.

The conference has tackled topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, mobility, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, and securing European funding to foster innovation in cities. Panels of experts have discussed how to make cities more efficient, secure, and people-centered—where technology truly serves the population.
