Retail calls on supermarket customers to wear face masks

In the Corona crisis, retailers in Berlin and Brandenburg are calling on supermarket customers to wear face masks when shopping.

"The more people wear it voluntarily, the more they protect others," said Nils Busch-Petersen, the association's managing director. "We also appreciate a smile behind the mouthguard."

According to him, there are still hamster purchases in the region, for example of toilet paper. But the traders are succeeding in preventing so many gaps in the shelves. "The situation is calming down", said Busch-Petersen.

For more and more sales staff, the industry representative explained that Plexiglas panes above the cash registers were available to protect against possible infections. In addition, retailers regulated access to their stores, for example by the number of shopping trolleys. Then only customers with carts would be admitted. "We have mostly reasonable customers," the CEO of the Berlin-Brandenburg trade association described the reactions. He recommended: "Take a walk beforehand so that you can enter the store relaxed."
