Municipal declaration as a robot-friendly city with plans to develop advanced robots to adapt to the city’s evolving social structure and effectively address the growing need for long-term care by:

  1. Establishing a robotics-investment fund for technology development, field testing, support for commercialization and mass production to systematize the growth of the robot industry;
  2. Introducing robot services in care facilities, including healthcare robots for long-term care facilities and storytelling/childcare robots for daycare centers, and opening educational facilities, such as the AI & Robotics Science Museum, to familiarize people with these innovative ideas; and
  3. Constructing Suseo Robotics Cluster, a startup and business venture hub dedicated to robotics technology and supporting prototype mass production, safety design, and certification of robotics products.

Plans to invest ₩202.9 billion over four years to develop a robot-friendly environment and lead the thriving robot service industry

The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG), set to become a robot-friendly city as the largest service robot market in the country, announced the Seoul Comprehensive Robotics Industry Development Plan, prioritizing robotics technology as a strategic industry for the city’s future. The plan aims to expand robotic services across sectors, anticipating the rapid transition towards a super-ageing society and positioning Seoul as a global leader in the field of robotics.

The plan spans until 2026 with a budget of ₩202.9 billion, comprising fifteen policies in three key areas: establishing a robotics-investment fund to foster innovative growth in the robotics industry; introducing and expanding robot services in diverse industries; and establishing a robot cluster, providing startups and business ventures with a platform to develop cutting-edge technologies, thereby enhancing the nation’s robotics industry’s competitiveness.

The city stated that robots are a new growth engine for the city’s future industries and an effective solution to address social challenges the city now faces. With the new plan in place, Seoul plans to support the innovative growth of robotics industry by creating a robot-friendly environment and aims to increase public familiarity with robots by expanding the utilization of robot services across various domains.
