The EU-funded project presents a common open Integration Platform with the necessary tools to facilitate and measure the benefits of integrating digital technologies (robotics and AI) in the healthcare system
Worldwide, healthcare systems are facing major challenges resulting from an ageing population, the growth in chronic diseases, the appearance of new viruses and burgeoning technical possibilities.
AI and Robotics technologies can play a key role addressing these challenges, by empowering healthcare professionals to provide better care to patients, while decreasing costs through better management of the resources.
HosmartAI aims to contribute to this healthcare system transformation. The EU-funded project presents a common open Integration Platform with the necessary tools to facilitate and measure the benefits of integrating digital technologies (robotics and AI) in the healthcare system.
From the 15th of September to the 15th of November 2022, HosmartAI has looked for AI/Robotics pilots for smart healthcare, to demonstrate the value and benefits of HosmartAI technologies in different healthcare environments across Europe.
And the selected projects are…
The Call attracted 48 applications from 21 eligible countries across Europe, coming from consortia of 2-3 partners, representing at least one tech provider/integrator (SME) and one end-user (healthcare entity). A panel of 12 external experts performed a transparent evaluation, shortlisting top 8 applications for an interview. The process ended up with the selection of the 4 most innovative proposals:
- Heart bAIt (Portugal) - Heart bAIt will develop and offer an AI service for personal data digestion based on heart rate patterns, detected and computed on the smartphone.
- SICS (Greece & The Netherlands) - SICS Consortium develops an AI-powered clinical decision-support system that predicts intraoperative complications and supports anaesthesiologists making timely and accurate decisions during a surgical operation.
- SoftLungX (Serbia) - SoftLungX aims to develop deep learning model for classification of patients’ radiological scans of lungs into multiple distinct respiratory diseases and risk classes based on the severity of the disease.
- VoiceAI (Georgia & Italy) - Improving mental health screening and management using AI-enabled vocal biomarkers technology.
The HosmartAI journey
Through a 12-month programme, the four selected consortia will be provided with grants up to €145k, support services for the development of their experimental pilot, access to the HosmartAI ecosystem, visibility and the opportunity to work with innovative European healthcare stakeholders.
The EXPERIMENT programme will comprise three different phases:
- DESIGN (2 months) – Fine-tune the pilot planning and technology usage with HosmartAI
- DEVELOP, DEPLOY, OPERATE (6 months) – Perform the technological developments and deploy them
- ASSESS (4 months) – Focus on the assessment and exploitation of results

What is HosmartAI?
HosmartAI – “Hospital Smart development based on AI”, is an EU-funded project, that aims to promote an effective and efficient healthcare system transformation, by the use of AI technological developments and robotics. In order to achieve this transformation, HosmartAI presents a common open integration platform with the necessary tools to facilitate and measure the benefits of integrating digital technologies (robotics and AI) for healthcare professionals, patients, information system managers and health organisation administrations.
